Berlin-Mitte, the historical center of the city is located in the east side of Berlin. The Alexanderplatz, the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, the museum’s Island, as well as many other buildings and historical, artistic and tourist spaces can be found in this district.

The vast majority of the 3-day tourists visit this quarter of Berlin.

On January 23rd 2012, with my camera under my arm, I left the apartment in the Schöneberg district in Berlin where I was staying having decided to dedicate no more than 3 hours to capture images of Berlin-Mitte. In any case, at no time did I want to take photos of the sights that delight the vast majority of those who go to Berlin.

I wanted to capture those aspects that normally go unnoticed by tourists. However, I wanted my lens to consider the purely artistic aspects such as shapes, colours, composition, contrasts, etc. etc., and at the same time, I wanted the images to display a high degree of sensitivity.

During the 3 hours, with all my concentration, I managed to capture a lot of pictures, although the weather did not help; the high humidity level and small drops of water suspended in the atmosphere made it necessary for me to take care of my camera. However, the lack of sunshine eliminated the strong contrasts of light, and the gray of the day, together with the rainy air, unified the chromaticity.

Once the images were captured, the work consisted basically of making a selection of them. It should be added that only certain contrasts and shades were later manipulated with the computer. It is a fieldwork with very few modifications. These modifications gave a certain warm quality to the cold of the day.

I took a lot of pictures but, although I could have made the series much larger, I forced myself to limit it to 9 photographs.

The reason for the number of images in this series was that on the same day, January 23rd in the morning, I considered doing a series photographs considering the members of the Board of Trustees of the Rodríguez-Amat Foundation. And I wanted, a priori, to limit the number of photographs in the series to 9 and that the number of folders also to 9, one for each of the members of the board. It should be added that there are three other folders without numbers.

The number and signature of each of the photographs is located behind the photographs.
