In 1967, Jordi Rodriguez-Amat moved to Barcelona once more for three months. In an attic that served as his home and workshop at the same time located in the neighborhood of Horta, he decided to do a great work summarizing his knowledge. This is a triptych 220 cm. X 342 cm. in which the artist represented The Life.

In all cultures, colors and images have a symbolism and Jordi Rodríguez-Amat used the symbolisms he thought were appropriate to represent the concept of life. White, black and red are the colors of the figures shown here. In the center of the composition we find a red female figure fighting with a shape that represents a phallus. Red, we all know, in our Western culture is passion, love, sex, the origin of life. Below this figure is a target reinforcing the symbolism of the figure itself.

To the left of the painting is a white male figure. White is purity, birth. In order to break with this figure and its symbolism, we find a black shape that, without being realistically represented, forms the image of a crow. It was a matter of creating a dilemma between these two images.

To the right of the painting is a black male figure. In our culture black is death, the destruction of life. And combined with this figure, without wanting to realistically represent an olive shape. The olive tree is an element of Mediterranean culture.

There is, above all, composition in this work. Rodríguez-Amat constructed a classical composition with the three figures, centering, obviously, the red one in the very center of the painting.

If we analyze the composition we see that the artist has wanted to create a rhythm. Everything in this work tends to lead the viewer’s eye towards the geometric center of the painting where the main element is located, the female figure with all its erotic values.

We ask the viewer to place their eyes on any part of the painting and follow the strong rhythm of the work to go to the center of the composition.

Once you have analyzed the work based on my explanations, look carefully at the painting to discover the values that your personal reading prompts. Consider composition, colors (warm and cool), movement, lines and directional lines, contrasts, background colors in relation to those of the figures, and all those other plastic values that your analysis leads you to.
